Middle Ages
The middle ages happened between the 500 and the 1500. During
the Middle Ages Rome almost lost their culture, language and knowledge. But Rome
was saved by the church. Monasteries started to give free education to the
people and preserve all their culture, language and knowledge in the library.
Also during the Middle Ages a lot of crusades were happening
because of the holy land. The holy land was in Jerusalem. Jerusalem was a
special hold land because that is where god preached and prayed. One of the first crusades was led by Pope
Urban II. He failed to conquer the hold land so another 3 crusades were lead to
conquer the hold land but failed to.
There was a children crusades. It happened after the fourth
one. The children thought that by conquering the holy land they would protect
god, that they would protect themselves the Christians. There was about 20,000 children,
but most of them died before they got to the holy land, either from starvation or
an illness. Not many survived. After they got Jerusalem they got sent back to
where they came from by the pope. After than nobody know what happened to them.
The Black Death and the Bubonic are the same plague. They both
came from fleas on rats and was spread throughout Europe through the Silk Road.
This plague happened in 1347, nearly killing 2/3 of the population. Many people
thought because most of the population was dying, that it was god’s judgment
day. Some of the symptoms to this plague was black spots, nausea vomiting,
pains, aches, pus bleeding and cough bleeding. Dr.’s believed they could cure
the black death by bloodletting (to clean the blood) or by using herbs and
spices. The black plague killed most of the serf class (poor) which made the
noble (rich) class pay the serf class more to do their work or they had to do
it themselves. The plague ended in Southern
Mongolia.
The Silk Road was a type of commerce. It’s how the plague
got around. The Silk Road varied from east to west. The Silk Road traded fruits
and veggies to new technology. Through
the silk road every country from east to west learned new things.
